Flower Care Instructions for Days of Beautiful Blooms
When you receive a beautiful flower arrangement in a vase, you want to keep it looking beautiful as long as possible. In order to do this, you need the right flower care instructions. Rather than just letting your arrangement sit there to fare how it will, you can actively preserve its beauty for days on end. Some hardier flowers will even last more than two weeks in a vase if you follow these instructions.
* When you receive your arrangement, pay attention to where you’re putting it. The flowers need to be away from extreme heat and direct sunlight. They should also not be set next to fruit. Fruit releases compounds that can cause flowers to decompose more quickly, so set the fruit bowl and the flower arrangement on different tables.
* Watch the water in your arrangement. Most likely, the first water that comes in the vase already has a flower sustaining nutrient powder mixed in. Follow the flower care instructions on the packet, and use this powder whenever possible. Sometimes you can even get more to add to your water whenever you change it.
* Change the water altogether every six days. When you do this, you’ll want to rinse out your vase. If it’s getting very slimy or if the water was turning brown with decaying gunk, you may want to wash it with a bit of dish soap or a tiny bit of bleach. This will get rid of the bacteria that can cause the water to smell and the flowers to break down even more quickly. Just make sure you rinse these cleaning agents out very well before replacing the water for your blooms.
* What many flower care instructions don’t say is that you also need to re-cut the stems each time you change the water. They should already be cut at an angle, but you need to take another inch or so off with a sharp knife. This helps the flowers stay open at the stems so they can continue to draw nutrition from the water.
* As you keep your arrangement around, you’ll probably notice that different flowers start to decay at different rates. This is totally normal and natural. All you need to do is pull out entire flowers as they start to look less than pretty. These flower care instructions will have your arrangement getting smaller day by day, but the flowers that last will look more beautiful this way.
